Coal production increased by 65 per cent in Tajikistan for eleven months of this year in comparison to the same period in 2013.

Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan reported to Asia-Plus that during the period of January-November of this year, over 805 thousand tons of coal produced in Tajikistan, which is 318 thousand tons more than the same period last year.

The Ministry notes: “Coal production increased as a result of opening of the Dushanbe-2 Central Heating Plant, and the fact that industrial enterprises moved from the more expensive natural gas and electricity to the more cost-effective training – coal for warming and other needs (for instance to turn into gas for TALCO).”

Coal production was 116 thousand tons in November. The number is 18 thousand tons higher than that of October.

According to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, over 160 industrial enterprises in Tajikistan are currently using coal.
