DUSHANBE, January 7, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament has ratified an agreement between the government of Tajikistan and KKN-Regar LLC on construction of an oil refinery in Tursunzoda.

A regular sitting of the sixth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on January 7.

Speaking at the session, the first deputy head of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management, Lochin Fayzullozoda, noted that Ukraine’s Ukrneftmash LLC is investing 14 million U.S. dollars in construction of the oil refinery in the city of Tursunzoda.

“Tajikistan’s contribution to the project amounts to 7 million U.S. dollars,” Tajik official said.

At first the plant will be capable of processing 150,000 tons of crude oil per year while introduction of the second line into operation will increase the plant’s capacity to 300,000 tons.  The project will create more than 220 new jobs, Fayzullozoda stressed.

The KKN-Regar LLC top manager Yusuf Zuvaydov said that the oil refinery would be built in the coming two years and it would be provided with the state-of-the-art equipment and technology.

“The plant will be able to transfer 73 million somoni to the national budget annually,” Zuvaydov added.

Parliamentarians unanimously voted for ratification of the agreement without any discussion.
