DUSHANBE, January 17, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Islamic Revival Party (IRP) has reportedly completed the process of nomination of candidates for seats in the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament).
“The Islamic Revival Party has included 27 candidates in its party list (election by proportional representation) and 22 party activists, including 10 women, will run for election to the parliament in single-mandate constituencies,” Mahmoudjon Fayzrahmon, a spokesman for the IRP, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, eight of the IRP candidates are under the age of 40, 17 are under the age of 50, 22 are under the age of 60 and two are over the age of 60.
595 activists of the IRP are working with the party election campaign staffs that have been set up across the whole party, Fayzrahmon said.
Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia. The IRP was registered on December 4, 1991. It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999. Its official newspaper is

(Salvation). According to some source, the IRP now has some 50,000 members. Women reportedly constitute more than 51 percent of the Islamic Revival Party members.
