DUSHANBE, January 20, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) is beginning to officially register candidates nominated for election to Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament today.
“Today, the Commission will officially register candidates that were included in the party lists of the Democratic Party of Tajikistan (DPT), the Socialist Party of Tajikistan (SPT) and the Party of Economic Reforms of Tajikistan (PER),” Abdumannon Dodozoda, the head of the CCER’s office, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
We will recall that the DPT included four candidates in its party list, the SPT and the PER – six candidates each.
Besides, the CCER is also expected to register members of the OSCE”s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) election observation mission today.
The 2015 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan will take place on March 1, 2015.
Tajikistan’s Parliament (Majlisi Oli) has two chambers: the Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon) and the National Assembly (Majlisi Milli). Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation (party list) and 41 in single-seat constituencies. Majlisi Milli has 33 members, 25 elected for a five-year term by local legislature (majlis) members and eight appointed by the president.
