DUSHANBE, January 22, 2015, Asia-Plus — The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) reports that Tajikistan saw bank deposits grow by 19.2 percent in a year to December 31, 2014, reaching 6.7 billion somoni, reflecting the expanding economy and rising public confidence in the banking sector.

According to data of Tajik central bank, individual deposits last year accounted for 63 percent (14.6 percent increase compared to 2013) of the overall volume of deposits kept at Tajik banks and corporate deposits account for 37 percent (+27.9).  

In 2014, local currency deposits reportedly accounted 34.3 percent of the overall volume of deposits kept at Tajik banks and foreign currency deposits accounted for 65.7 percent. 

138 lending organizations, including 17 banks, one non-bank credit institution and 120 microfinance organizations now operate in Tajikistan, the source said.
