Tajik chief prosecutor replaced

DUSHANBE, January 25, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s chief prosecutor has been replaced.

An extraordinary session of Tajikistan’s upper house (Majlisi Milli) of parliament that took place in Dushanbe on January 24 gave consent to the appointment of Yusuf Rahmonov, who had previously served as First Deputy Head of President’s Executive Office, as Prosecutor-General of Tajikistan. 

Under Article 56 of Tajikistan’s Constitution, the Majlisi Milli is empowered to give consent to the appointment and relieving of the Prosecutor General and his deputies.

President EmomaIi Rahmon issued a decree on relieving Sherkhon Salimzoda of his post of the Prosecutor-General of the Republic of Tajikistan on January 24.

On the same day, President Rahmon issued a decree on appointing Yusuf Rahmonov the Prosecutor-General of the Republic of Tajikistan.       

Yusuf Rahmonov had worked with public prosecution bodies for 23 years before he was appointed the first deputy head of President’s Executive Office in December 2014.

Yusuf Rahmonov was born on March 22, 1966 in the Vose District, Khatlon Province.  He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Tajik National University in 1991.        

From 2004 to 2010, he served as Deputy Prosecutor-General and Chief Military Prosecutor of te Republic of Tajikistan.

From 2010 to 2012, Rahmonov served as Chief Prosecutor in Sughd Province.

In 2012-2014, he served as Senior Adviser, Public Security Department, Tajikistan’s Security Council.

In December 2014, he was appointed the first deputy head of President’s Executive Office.

Yusuf Rahmonov is married with five children.
