DUSHANBE, January 26, 2015, Asia-Plus — Dushanbe and Tashkent still have failed to reach an agreement on resumption of flight between them, Tajik Transport Minister Khairullo Asozoda told reporters in Dushanbe on January 26.

“We have agreements on air communication with eighteen countries of the world, including Uzbekistan,” said Asozoda.  “Tajikistan has always strived for expansion of transportation cooperation with its neighbors.”

According to him, he has applied to his Uzbek counterpart proposing to expand transportation communication between the two countries but he has not yet received reply to his letter.

“The 11th annual meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) TRACECA will be held in Istanbul on January 29 and I will raise this issue at a meeting with Uzbek transport minister,” Asozoda said.

We will recall that some websites offering information about flights and air tickets reported in mid-January that Uzbek national air carrier, Uzbekistan Airways, will start twice weekly service from Tashkent to Dushanbe in March this year.

According to these websites, Uzbekistan Airways will begin offering a twice weekly service to Dushanbe from March 29, 2015.

In the framework of agreements reached during talks between the presidents of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in Dushanbe in September last year, Tajikistan has sent a number of proposals to Uzbekistan on expansion of bilateral cooperation.

The Tajik authorities reportedly noted that resumption of regular air communication between Dushanbe and Tashkent and bus service between cities of the two countries would promote expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The air communication between Dushanbe and Tashkent was cut off in 1992.
