DUSHANBE, February 12, 2015, Asia-Plus — On Wednesday February 11, Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade Nematullo Hikmatullozoda received Azerbaijani Ambassador to Tajikistan Abbasali Hasanov, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) press center.
The two discussed further expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan.
Hikmatullozoda and Hasanov reportedly exchanged views on issues related to attraction of investments, processing of farm produce, and holding of the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation.
Inefficient transport links between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan are among factors that impede expansion of trade between the two countries, and therefore, the parties also discussed resumption of air communication between the two countries.
We will recall that speaking at a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev in Dushanbe, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon noted on October 16, 2014 that Tajikistan is interested in resumption of direct flight between Dushanbe and Baku.
The direct flight between Dushanbe and Baku was launched on July 10, 2012 but it was suspended because of low passenger traffic. The flight was resumed in March 2013 but it was later suspended again for the mentioned reason.
