DUSHANBE, February 18, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan exported nearly 12,000 tons of cotton fiber last month, which was approximately 7.0 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

In January 2014, Tajikistan reportedly exported little more than 11,000 tons of cotton fiber.

Last year, Tajikistan exported only 87,000 tons of cotton fiber, which was 27,500 tons fewer than in the in 2013.  In 2013 Tajikistan exported 114,500 tons of cotton fiber.  In 2012, Tajikistan reportedly exported 144,000 tons of cotton.

Meanwhile, the international cotton prices reportedly fell almost 22 percent compared to January 2014 and specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan attribute decrease in the volume of cotton fiber exports to the drop in the international cotton prices and reducing production of raw cotton in the country.
