reports heavy snowfalls on February 21-22 caused a series of avalanches in the region that block in several places the main highways from Dushanbe to Khorog, from Khorog to Ishkashim, and from Khorog to Murgab.  Road workers are clearing the highways of snow.

Taking into consideration the risk of further avalanches in the region, local officials in Khorog have reportedly set up a special avalanche commission.
