DUSHANBE, February 23, 2015, Asia-Plus — The process of registration of international election observers with Tajikistan’s Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) is nearing completion.
Abdumannon Dodozoda, the head of the CCER’s office, says the last group of international election observers will be registered with the CCER on February 24.
“To-date, 427 representatives of the OSCE”s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the CIS and separate countries have been officially registered with the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) as international observers,” Dodozoda said.
In all, more than 500 representatives of regional, international organizations and separate countries are expected to monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections in Tajikistan as international observers.
The 2015 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan will take place on March 1, 2015.
Tajikistan’s Parliament (Majlisi Oli) has two chambers: the Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon) and the National Assembly (Majlisi Milli). Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation (party list) and 41 in single-seat constituencies. Majlisi Milli has 33 members, 25 elected for a five-year term by local legislature (majlis) members and eight appointed by the president.
