DUSHANBE, February 24, 2015, Asia-Plus — Uzbek national air carrier,  O‛zbekiston Havo Yo‛llari (Uzbekistan Airways), has reportedly sent an official letter to Dushanbe International Airport (MAD) to know about services offered by the Dushanbe airport to foreign airliners.

“Uzbek national air company is interested in issues related to MAD’s readiness to receive Uzbek airliners, prices for services offered by the Dushanbe airport, and refueling conditions at the Dushanbe airport,” Mahmadyusuf Shodiyev, a spokesman for MAD, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“We have sent a detailed reply to the Uzbek side’s letter,” Shodiyev said, noting that the date of resumption of flights between Dushanbe and Tashkent is still unknown.

We will recall that in the framework of agreements reached during talks between the presidents of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in Dushanbe in September last year, Tajikistan has sent a number of proposals to Uzbekistan on expansion of bilateral cooperation.

The Tajik authorities reportedly noted that resumption of regular air communication between Dushanbe and Tashkent and bus service between cities of the two countries would promote expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The air communication between Dushanbe and Tashkent was cut off in 1992.

Meanwhile, a source in the Tajik government says the issue of resumption of regular air communication and bus services between the two countries is still open.  “Most likely, the sides will begin to discuss these issues  after Uzbekistan’s presidential election, scheduled for March 29,” the source added.
