DUSHANBE, March 18, 2015, Asia-Plus — Ex-chief prosecutor of Tajikistan, Sherkhon Salimzoda, has been elected Chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan (FITUT).
A congress of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan was held in Dushanbe on March 18 and Sherkhon Salimzoda was elected a new head of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan, replacing Murodali Solehov.
Murodali Solehov had headed the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan since the late 1980s.
We will recall that Sherkhon Salimzoda was relieved of his position of Prosecutor-General of Tajikistan on January 24 this year.
The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan (FITUT) is a national trade union center in Tajikistan. It is the successor to the Soviet trade union system and claims a membership of 1.5 million, although a portion of members are found in many enterprises which are not functioning, due to economic conditions.
The FITUT is affiliated with the General Confederation of Trade Unions.
