KHUJAND, April 13, 2015, Asia-Plus – The 23rd anniversary of the formation of the Internal Troops of Tajikistan was marked at the end of the last week at Interior Ministry military unit 3501 deployed in the city of Khujand, the capital of the Sughd province.

Khujand Mayor Rajabboy Ahmadzoda and Colonel Saidmumin Izzatov, Deputy Commander of the Internal Troops, attended the event.

The mayor familiarized himself with serving and living conditions of the servicemen, Mahmoudjon Dadoboyev a spokesman for the Khujand mayor’s office, told Asia-Plus in an interview.              

Established on April 10, 1992, the Internal Troops are the internal security force of Tajikistan under the Ministry of Interior.  They act as the reserve of the Military of Tajikistan, and are in charge of homeland defense.  They are used to support and reinforce the police, deal with large-scale riots, internal armed conflicts, and safeguarding of highly-important facilities in the country.  The internal troops have participated in all special operations such as Molniya (Lightning), Mak (Poppy), etc.
