DUSHANBE, April 14, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday met in Seoul with Korean Parliament Speaker, Mr. Jeong Ui-hwa.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, they discussed issues related to further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and South Korea and establishment of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

Tajik president and Korean parliament speaker reportedly expressed satisfaction with expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and South Korea and underlined mutual interest in further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.   

The National Assembly, officially the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, is the 300-member unicameral legislature of the Republic of Korea (South Korea). The latest legislative elections were held on 11 April 2012. Single-member constituencies comprise 246 of the assembly”s seats, while the remaining 54 are allocated by proportional representation.  Members serve four-year terms.

The unicameral assembly consists of at least 200 members according to the Constitution. In 1990 the assembly had 299 seats, 224 of which were directly elected from single-member districts in the general elections of April 1988.  Under applicable laws, the remaining seventy-five representatives were elected from party lists.  By law, candidates for election to the assembly must be at least thirty years of age.  The National Assembly”s term is four years.  The assembly cannot be dissolved by the president.
