DUSHANBE, May 18, 2015, Asia-Plus — A mudslide has killed at least two in the Roudaki district, according to the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of Tajikistan (CES).

“The tragedy took place in the Sultonobod jamoat on May 17,” Orif Nozimov, a spokesman for the CES, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“The Abdulloyeva sisters, the 18-year-old Mariam and the 15-year-old Khairnisso, were killed by the mudslide while shepherding,” Nozimov said, noting that the bodies of the girls were recovered and handed over to their relatives.

In the northern city of Istaravshan, mudslides caused by recent torrential rain have destroyed six cars and damaged 300 meters of the road in the city, the spokesman said.

In the northern district of Asht, mudslides have reportedly buried four cars and damaged more than 700 meters of roads.

We will recall that a landslide that occurred in the Fayzobod district, about 50 kilometers from Dushanbe, on April 3 killed at least 10 people.  Dozens of residents of the village of Yakabedi were reportedly trapped in their houses by mud.
