DUSHANBE, May 18, 2015, Asia-Plus — Prospects of further expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were the focus of a meeting of Tajik Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Saidrahmon Nazriyev, with a delegation of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry that took place here on May 12.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) press center says the two sides exchanged views on issues related to attraction of investments, processing of farm produce in Tajikistan and intensification of work of the Tajikistan-UAE commission for economic development and trade.
We will recall that the delegation of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry comprising Mr. Omar Abdul Aziz Khan, Director of International Offices of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (United Arab Emirates), Mr. Sanan Nasibli, Head of Dubai Chamber representative Office in Azerbaijan, and Ms. Maryam Beshvari, food Product Specialist, the Dubai Municipality was on a working visit to Tajikistan last week.
On May 11, the delegation met Mr. Sharif Said, Chairman of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI). The sides exchanged views on bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Dubai and export of Tajik agricultural goods to Dubai. They also discussed issues related to organization of mutual economic exhibitions, fairs and business forums in order to promote expansion of business partnership and increase in mutual trade.
Mr. Omar Abdul Aziz Khan reportedly noted that UAE consumers were interested in importing high quality farm products from Tajikistan.
Established in 1965, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a private non-profit organization, whose stated purpose is to support the business community in Dubai and promote Dubai as an international business hub. The Chamber created 27 business groups that are divided by industry, and 43 business councils that are divided by country.
According to the data of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and the UAE over the first quarter of this year has valued at about 15 million U.S. dollars, which was nearly 40 percent fewer than in the same period last year.
