DUSHANBE, May 27, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) today endorsed amendments proposed to the country’s law on foreign economic activities.

Speaking at the session, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Nematullo Hikmatullozoda, noted that the amendments, in particular, expand the government powers on organizing cross-border trade.

“The cross-border trade, previously organized only on the basis of bilateral agreements with neighboring countries, now will also be organized by government’s relevant decision on the basis of the country’s legislation,” the minister noted.

Several marketplaces for cross-border trade now operate on Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan and on the Isfara stretch of Tajikistan’s common border with Kyrgyzstan.
