DUSHANBE, June 1, 2015, Asia-Plus — The German Embassy in Dushanbe, the Austrian Embassy in Astana and the State Opera and Ballet Theater named after Sadriddin Ayni organize a concert on June 5.

Four musical pieces of classical German and Austrian composers — Trauermusik by Paul Hindemith, Elegy by Igor Stravinsky for viola solo, Fantasy for Viola and Orchestra by Johann Nepomuk  Hummel, and Unfinished Symphony by Franz Schubert – will be performed.

The concert is to commemorate the Austrian Lieutenant-Colonel, Wolf Sponner, who lost his live in the line of his duty as head of the UN-observation mission in Qurghon Teppa 20 years ago.  The UN-mission was tasked with monitoring the ceasefire of September 18, 1994 after the civil war in Tajikistan.  The memorial concert is also to honor the thousands of people who lost their lives during the civil war.

The program is realized in cooperation between the renowned German conductor and viola player Ulrich von Wrochem and the young German conductor Jan Moritz Onken.  Jan Moritz Onken currently works as a visiting conductor with the orchestra of the Ayni Theater for three months and Ulrich von Wrochem is visiting Dushanbe especially for this concert.

After his studies in Berlin and Detmold, Ulrich von Wrochem worked as solo viola player in renowned orchestras, e.g. the Opera of Berlin, the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio and the Scala in Milan.  He gives concerts and master classes in Germany, Austria, Russia, Egypt, Syria, Brazil, China, Iran and the USA.

Jan Moritz Onken received his professional education at the conservatorium in Saint Petersburg and conducted orchestras in Saint Petersburg, Berlin, Seoul, Algiers, Almaty, South Africa.  Since April 2015, he has been working as a visiting conductor in Dushanbe.

Tickets are available for 20 somoni at the ticket office of the State Opera and Ballet Theater named after Sadriddin Ayni.  Opening hours of the ticket office:  9am to 5pm
