Dushanbe. 20 August. “Asia Plus” — For an essential increase in bilateral trade and the improvement of the structure of commodity nomenclature, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan need to activate the bilateral cooperation in several areas. This was stated by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on the talks with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov on August 20 in Ashgabat.
“Means the establishment of joint ventures, the opening of trading houses, closer cooperation in the field of transport, simplification of business circles trips and maintening the work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation in an active mode,” – said the Tajik president.
Emomali Rahmon said that Tajikistan and Turkmenistan should rapidly develop trade and economic relations, which, in his opinion, “create conditions for the expansion of contacts in all other directions.”
Tajik leader noted that the contractual and legal framework of our relationships consists of about seventy documents. “These are good, well-prepared agreements. A clear implementation of the reached agreements and realization of signed interstate documents would give a powerful push to further development of our trade and economic relations”, – he said.
Noting that the development of trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan in recent years was very rapid, E. Rakhmon stressed that the creation of transport and transit infrastructure will make it possible to encourage the development of various industries.
He stressed that during the talks the Tajik side confirms its desire for the simplification of passengers and cargo movement through the Turkmenistan`s territory. “We believe that the establishment of direct air and railway services between the two capitals would become a powerful factor for the further development of trade and economic relations”, – said the President of Tajikistan.
According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, for the first seven months of this year the volume of Tajik-Turkmen trade turnover amounted to more than $ 65 million. This is by 11% more than the same period last year. More than $ 63 million in the trade turnover this year between the two countries falls on the import of Turkmen goods in Tajikistan.
