Dushanbe. 3 September. “Asia Plus” — New five-year partnership strategy of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Tajikistan is scheduled to be approved by the Board of Directors of the regional bank in the beginning of the next year, said permanent representation of ADB in Dushanbe.
“Now the strategy of partnership with Tajikistan for the 2016-2020 years is under development”, – said the representation.
The source added that the ADB Board of Directors plans to approve the document in January 2016.
It should be noted that, since 2008 fiscal year, the ADB provides assistance to Tajikistan exclusively on free of charge because of the risk of the external debt instability.
However, the improvement in the external debt of the country allows the Bank to resume loans to Tajikistan from the next year.
ADB is the main external donor of Tajikistan: to date the financial institution has approved assistance for Tajikistan in the amount of approximately $ 1.3 billion in the form of soft loans, grants and technical assistance.
In 2015 ADB has increased its assistance to Tajikistan by approximately $ 20 million, raising the projected annual aid program to $ 79 million.
The assistance program in 2015 aimed at supporting private sector development, railways and water resources, as well as improving the investment climate.
