The Government of Japan and Tajikistan have concluded additional allocation of the budget of JPY265, 000,000 (approx. USD 2.2 million by the rate 1USD=119JPY) for the “Project for Rehabilitation of Drinking Water Supply Systems in Pyanj District, Khatlon Region” on October 24, 2015. During the meeting between H.E. Mr. Shinzo ABE, Prime Minister of Japan and H.E. Mr. Emomali RAHMON, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, 2 documents for the Project have been signed by the following persons. On the Exchange of Notes, Mr.Takayuki KOIKE, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Tajikistan and Mr.Sirodjidin ASLOV, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan have signed. And on the Grant Agreement, Ms.Kae YANAGISAWA, Vice-President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the above Minister have signed.

phase of the Project was agreed between 2 countries on June 27, 2014 and its field activity was commenced in December 2014 with budget of JPY1, 586,000,000 (approx. USD 13.3 million by the rate USD=119JPY) . The implementing agency of the Project is State Unitary Enterprise “Khojagii Manziliyu Kommunali” (KMK). Area of Pyanj Vodokanal namely Pyanj town and 6 surrounding villages will be covered with totally new water supply system. In the Project, 6 deep wells will be dug, approx. 200 km distribution and service pipes will be installed and 2 elevated water tanks will be constructed. Currently the Project activity is being done well and would be expectedly completed as scheduled.
In the Project area, presently 6,500 persons (in 2012) are getting water but after completion of the Project, 29,000 persons would be benefitted with safe drinking water by 2020 with effort of Pyanj Vodokanal.
Besides, more than 4,500 water meters for individual users would be installed in the framework of the Project and JICA is considering to implement capacity development program for the Vodokanal and KMK on volumetric tariff system.
