DUSHANBE, October 26, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik-Japanese negotiations that took place in Dushanbe on October 24 resulted in signing of eight new cooperation documents, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
The two sides, in particular, signed three agreements on allocation of funds rehabilitation of water supply systems in the Panj district.
They also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the governments of the two countries in the field of science and technologies.
The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) and the Center for Financial Studies at the National Public Safety Commission of Japan adopted a statement on cooperation.
Besides, Japan’s Government and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) signed two agreements on exchange of memorandums on the project for improvement of locust management in Tajikistan.
Tajikistan’s University of Languages and Japan’s University of Tsukuba signed an agreement on cooperation and scientific exchange.
During the negotiations, the two sides reportedly exchanged views on further expansion of political, economic, cultural and scientific cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan.
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon appreciated Japanese Government’s support for social development of Tajikistan and noted that more than 340 social projects have been implemented in Tajikistan under financial support of Japan.
At the same time, Tajik president pointed to the necessity of making shift from technical and humanitarian assistance projects to attraction of Japan’s direct investments and preferential loans in development of Tajikistan’s economy.
Rahmon reportedly outlined sectors like industry, mining, energy, transportation, road building and agriculture, as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Japan.
The Tajik side welcomed the decision of Japan’s Government to appoint Japan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan in 2016.
During the negotiations, the two sides also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest, including the latest developments in Afghanistan and Middle East.
Senior representatives of 50 Japanese companies accompanied Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on his visit to Tajikistan.
