Networking meeting “Tajik Handcraft: towards sustainable and inclusive development” held in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, November 19, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Union of Craftsmen of Tajikistan (UCT) in partnership with the NGO Cesvi and the National Association of Small and Medium Businesses (NASMB) held the networking meeting “Tajik handicraft: Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Development” in the new Handicraft Center in Dushanbe on November 18.

The meeting was held on occasion of the Global Entrepreneurship Week promoted by AmCham and US Embassy in Dushanbe.  

According to the European Union Delegation to Tajikistan, the initiative promoted within the framework of the EU funded project “Handicraft and Business through Regional Integration and Fair Trade Market” under the Central Asia Invest Program III and with the participation of state authorities and local and international handicraft stakeholders; presented the new Handicraft Center established by the Municipality of Dushanbe with the support of the President of Tajikistan.

The event was reportedly opened by Ms. Zulfia Davlatbekova – Program Manager of the EU Delegation in Tajikistan, Mr. Abdurahmon Nazirmatov – Chairman of the Union of Craftsmen of Tajikistan and Mr. Giuseppe Bonati – Cesvi Country Director.  The meeting was an opportunity to present the ongoing progress of the Tajik handicraft sector, highlighting positive trends and opportunities offered by the new Handicraft Center.

UCT members such as Public Organizations “Chashma” from Shahritous, “Ozara” from Khujand and “De Pamiri” from Khorog, shared their insights on the development of the handicraft sector in Tajikistan.

The event ended with an official opening of UCT space in the Handicraft Center.
