One gets long-term jail term for recruiting Dushanbe residents for ISIL

Date:

DUSHANBE, December 7, 2015, Asia-Plus – Resident of Dushanbe has got a long jail term for recruiting local residents to the war in Syria.

Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reports a court in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district sentenced Rustam Nematov to 14 years in prison on December 4.

A source at the court in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district told RFE/RL’s Tajik Service that Rustam Nematov together with his brother Akbar Nematov, who is currently in Syria, had been sending the recruited men and women to Syria via the Dushanbe-Jirgatol-Osh-Turkey route.

The brothers had reportedly been recruiting men and women to the war in Syria during 2014-215.

They were found guilty of recruitment, financing and sending of mercenaries to Syria, the source said.

The International Business Times

reported on October 16 that recruiters for the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS or ISIL, apparently earn thousands of dollars if they can convert their peers to jihadis.

UN experts reportedly noted that ISIS pays its supporters up to $10,000 for each person they recruit to wage jihad in Iraq and Syria.

“We have heard … about situations where recruiters were paid from 2,000, 3,000 to 10,000 dollars depending on … who was recruited,” Elzbieta Karska, who chairs a United Nations group studying the issue, told a press conference in Brussels, according to

Agence France-Presse

.  “If somebody was well educated like computer specialists or doctors, they were paid more,” the Polish human rights lawyer said, adding the findings were preliminary.
