Deputy prime minister proposes to review irrigators’ electricity debts

Date:

DUSHANBE, January 12, 2016, Asia-Plus – Deputy Prime Minister, Azim Ibrohim, yesterday held a meeting to discuss issues related to improvement of a financial state of the Land Reclamation Agency under the Government of Tajikistan (LRA) and seeking solution to problems of its electricity debts.

A source in the Tajik government says pumping stations last year supplied 71.2 million somoni worth of water to farmers’ lands, while they have received only 42.3 million somoni so far.

For this, pumping stations have used 28.2 million somoni worth of electricity but they have paid only 3 million somoni so far.

Over the past two years, irrigators’ electricity debts have reportedly increased to 49.6 million somoni though they receive electricity at low rates.

Speaking at the meeting, Azim Ibrohim ordered to organize strict control over used water and energy resources.
