DUSHANBE, January 28, 2016, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s gold production last year increased by 31.6 percent compared to 2014, Tajik Minister of Industry and New Technologies Shavkat Bobozoda announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 28.
But the minister refrained from saying how much gold had been produced in Tajikistan over the report, noting that information on that metal is provided under “a special system.”
According to data from the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MINT), about 3,200 kilograms of gold were produced in 2014.
Proceeding from this one may suppose that gold production in Tajikistan last year increased to about 4,200 kilograms.
Bobozoda also noted that compared to 2014 there was a 61 percent increase in production of silver in 2015.
He further added the National Bank of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan last year increased purchases of gold produced in the country.
Tajikistan reportedly has 28 known gold deposits containing an estimated 429.3 tons of gold. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the largest amount of gold was produced in Tajikistan in 2015 – about 4,200 kilograms.
Four large gold mining companies now operate in Tajikistan: Tilloi Tojik; Tajik-Chinese JV Zeravshan Gold Company; Tajik-Canadian JV Aprelevka; and China Nonferrous Gold Limited, which is the first foreign company to obtain 100% ownership of a mining and exploration project in Tajikistan. Besides, a number of local enterprises such as Odina, Nazira, Ganj, Barakat and Istiqlol are engaged in gold production in the country. Most of gold comes from the Jilau deposit operated by Tajik-Chinese joint venture, Zeravshan Gold Company.
