Dushanbe hosts Tajikistan-India business forum

DUSHANBE, March 29, 2016, Asia-Plus – A two-day conference of representatives of the business communities of Tajikistan and India is concluding in Dushanbe today, according to Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI).

Organized by CCI and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the forum reportedly brought together more than 60 entrepreneurs from both countries to discuss cooperation.

The forum participants, in particular, presented their projects.

Representatives of Indian business circles reportedly inquired about Tajikistan’s legal foundation, visa regime, state of private sector in Tajikistan, and benefits granted to foreign investors in the country.

Indian entrepreneurs showed interest in participation in investment projects aimed at construction of combined heat and power plants and hydroelectric power plants in Tajikistan.

The forum participants outlined sectors like pharmaceutics, agriculture, minerals, transportation, and information technologies as areas that could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.

While in Tajikistan, Indian entrepreneurs will also hold talks with senior representatives of relevant ministries and agencies and visit free economic zones, the source said.

According to him, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between CCI and CII was signed during the conference.  The document was inked Sharif Said, the head of Tajikistan’s CCI, and Kiran Vasant Kalbag, the head of the CII delegation.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is an association of Indian businesses which works to create an environment conducive to the growth of industry in the country.

CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organization, playing a proactive role in India”s development process.  Founded in 1895, CII has over 7200 members, from the private as well as public sectors, including SMEs and MNCs, and an indirect membership of over 1,00,000 enterprises from around 242 national and regional sectoral industry bodies.
