KHUJAND, August 19, 2016, Asia-Plus — Chief of the Interior Ministry’s office in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province, Colonel Emin Jalilov, says 685 crimes have been reported in the city over the first seven months of this year.

Over the same seven-month period, 30 residents of Khujand have been detained for membership in various extremist and terrorist parties and movements.

To-date, 245 members of the outlawed extremist religious Hizb ut-Tahrir group and 226 members of the banned Salafi group have been registered in Khujand; the majority of them have been jailed. 

643 women wearing hijab have been registered with Interior Ministry’s office in Khujand; 513 of them are residents of the city of Khujand.  The majority of them are residents of the Sodirkhon Hofiz, Qorirahmat Qurbonov, Razzaq, Masjidi Sarv, and Sari Balandi neighborhoods.  All these neighborhoods are now under special control of the Khujand police department, Jalilov said.
