Challenges and threats ISIS poses to Central Asia discussed in Dushanbe

New challenges and threats Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group poses to the Central Asia region have been discussed in Dushanbe.

The Center for Strategic Center under the President of Tajikistan together with “The Friends of Russia” public organization last week held a roundtable in Dushanbe to discuss the current situation in the Middle East countries and threats ISIS poses to Central Asia.

The meeting brought together independent experts, representatives of public associations, employees of relevant ministries and agencies as well as representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Tajikistan.

The meeting participants, in particular, noted that modern international terrorism and religious extremism had turned into one of the most dangerous global problems of the present time and posed serious teat to international community.

A special attention was paid to activities of law enforcement authorities in preventing crimes related to terrorism and extremism.

Speaking at the meeting, representative of the Interior Ministry drew attention of those present to role of information and communication technologies that were actively used by extremist for recruiting youth.

The current military and political situation in the countries of Middle East and the latest developments in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan caused a wide discussion among the meeting participants.

They noted that Tajikistan was one of the most active participants of the fight against new challenges and threats such as extremism and international terrorism.
