The members of the upper chamber of the Parliament of Tajikistan for the first time swore allegiance to the people of the Republic. The oath was taken at the eighth session of Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan on the 8th of November.
The senators, alternately rising to the podium and putting their right hand on the Constitution, said the approved text of the oath. The first has sworn the speaker of the upper house of Parliament, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloev.
The senators vowed that the interests of the people and the state would be paramount. They also vowed to carry out their activities in accordance with the Constitution and laws of Tajikistan, directing all their knowledge, strength and experience on the socio-economic development of the country, strengthening of national unity, ensuring the rights and freedoms of the individual. The members of the upper chamber took an oath to honestly and conscientiously participate in the development and adoption of the laws.
Amendment of the oath of parliamentarians to the people of Tajikistan, and amendments of the members of the government to the President of the country, were introduced in the Constitution of the Republic on the referendum on the 22nd of May.
The order of the oath of the deputies of the lower and the members of the upper house of Parliament is regulated by the laws "On Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan" and "On the legal status of member of Majlisi Milli and Deputy of Majlisi Namoyandagon of Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan".
Amendments to the before mentioned laws and the law "On the government of the Republic of Tajikistan" were prepared and sent to the Parliament by the government at the end of June.
According to the laws the members of Majlisi Milli and deputies of Majlisi Namoyandagon after the election or appointment will take an oath to the people of Tajikistan at the sessions of chambers, and the members of the government after the appointment by the President and after the approval of the decree will swear allegiance to the President Emomali Rahmon, and this will take place at a joint meeting of both chambers of Tajik Parliament.
