Tajikistan adopts health care code

Date:

Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament has endorsed a draft healthcare code proposed by the government.

A regular session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, took place on March 15.

Presenting the draft code to lawmakers, the Minister of Health and Social Protection Nasim Olimzoda noted that it regulated activities of public and private health care systems.

The code, in particular, notes that young physicians who do not have enough experience do not have the right to be engaged in private medical practice.

Today, 601 entities in Tajikistan offer private medical services, the minister said.

Meanwhile, Shukurjon Zuhurov noted that Tajikistan did not have enough specialists to operate the state-of-the-art medical equipment that had been delivered to the country in recent years.

Touching upon the issue of corruption in the health sector, Zuhurov said, ”If you eliminate corruption in the ministry itself, corruption in clinics and hospitals will go down.”

Lawmakers unanimously voted for endorsement of the draft health care code.
