Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali has ordered local prosecutor’s office to launch investigation into the cause of a fire that broke out at Dushanbe’s Korvon bazaar on July 2. He also ordered to prepare the list of fire-affected merchants at the Korvon bazaar who had received bank loans for development of their businesses.
Dushanbe mayor yesterday held a meeting over the July 2 fire at the Korvon bazaar, according to the press center of the Dushanbe mayor’s office.
Rustam Emomali reportedly ordered the Dushanbe prosecutor’s office to launch thorough investigation into the cause of the July 2 fire at the Korvon bazaar and to make public the investigation results.
The mayor also ordered relevant municipal agencies and heads of the city’s markets to provide all markets in the city with modern fire safety equipment until September 1.
Taking into consideration that Dushanbe now has only 22 fire engine crews, the mayor reportedly proposed to consider the issue of purchasing additional fire engines for the city.
Emomali ordered a special commission comprising representatives of the Dushanbe mayor’s office and merchants at the Korvon bazaar who suffered losses during the July 2 fire to complete the work on assessing the actual damage caused to merchants by the fire until August 1.
The mayor also ordered to prepare the list of fire-affected merchants at the Korvon bazaar who had received bank loans for development of their businesses, the press center said.
Meanwhile, merchants, whose shops were destroyed by the July 2 blaze at Dushanbe’s Korvon bazaar, have been exempted from paying rents during two years.
Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali yesterday morning received a group of merchants, whose shops were destroyed in Sunday’s blaze.
The mayor has ordered relevant municipal bodies to exempt merchants, whose shops were destroyed in Sunday’s blaze, from paying rents and lump sums (single payments) to the bazaar during two years.
By mayor’s order all the destroyed shops are expected to be rehabilitated during twenty days.
Recall, the blaze engulfed more than 480 square meters of the Korvon Bazaar late on July 2. Twenty-eight firefighting crews were reportedly involved in extinguishing the blaze at the Korvon Bazaar. No injured was reported.
The Interior Ministry says an electric short circuit was the cause of the fire that broke out the Korvon Bazaar yesterday evening.
A special commission is currently working at the bazaar to assess the actual damage caused to merchants by the fire.
Built in 2002, the Korvon Bazaar is Dushanbe’ biggest wholesale market. It occupies the space of some 14,000 square meters.
The Jul2 fire was at least the sixth fire to ravage Korvon in less than a decade. The last fire was on September 2012. A total damage caused to the market by the previous five blazes has been estimated at about 3.5 million U.S. dollars.
