Two drug traffickers have been killed in a skirmish along the Tajik-Afghan border in the southern Khatlon province.

Two skirmishes occurred between Tajik border guards and drug traffickers along the Tajik-Afghan border in Khatlon province on July 3, according to the press service of the Main Border Guard Directorate at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS).

“On July 3, at around 11:30 pm, Tajik border guards on a routine patrol spotted a group of armed persons who were illegally crossing the border river in the Shohin district.  As a result of an exchange of fire, two trespassers were killed and five kilograms of narcotic drug were found on the spot,” Muhammad Ulughkhojayev, a spokesman for the Main Border Guard Directorate, told Asia-Plus today morning.

On the same day, a skirmish took place between Tajik border guards and drug traffickers in the area patrolled by the “Panj” border unit, according to Ulughkhojayev.

Using the cover of darkness, the trespassers reportedly managed to return to the Afghan territory.  Several packages of narcotic drug that tested positive to hashish weighing 16 kilograms and assault rifle Kalashnikov were found on the spot, Ulughkhojayev said.
