Defense ministry denies information about sending additional forces to Sughd as ‘baseless’

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has denied information about sending additional forces to the northern Sughd province as “unfounded.”

“A large-scale military exercise for military units deployed in Sughd and local reservists will be conducted in Sughd province in the second half of August,” Colonel Faridoun Mahmadalizoda, a spokesman for a MoD, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the purpose of the exercise that will involve exercise servicemen of military units deployed in the province, border guards, reservists, local police, civilian support service and military materiel is to rehearse organization of territorial defense and mobilization of reservists.  

Recall, similar military exercise were conducted for reservists from Khatlon province from March 27 to 30 and for reservists from the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) from July 17 to 20.
