Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali, who is also President of the Tajikistan Football Federation (TFF), has been elected to head the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA), according to the TFF press center.
The next congress the Central Asian Football Association took place at Hyatt Regency Dushanbe Hotel on April 24.
Tajikistan Football Federation President Rustam Emomali was elected new President the Central Asian Football Association replacing representative of Uzbekistan Umed Ahmadjonov.
In this connection the CAFA Headquarters moves from Tashkent to Dushanbe.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan Football Federation Vice-President Dastanbek Konokbayev was elected First Vice-President of the Central Asian Football Association.
Turkmenistan Football Federation Secretary-General Arslan Ainazarov was elected Vice-President of the Central Asian Football Association.
The Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) is an association of the football playing nations in Central Asia.
The Association was in principle approved by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in June 2014 and approved at the Extraordinary Congress in January 2015 during the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. As a result, CAFA can have member on the AFC executive committee.
The formation of CAFA was spearheaded by the Iranian Football Federation following disputes with West Asian Football Federation members.
Members of the six nations reportedly met with AFC President Sheikh Salman on May 10, 2014 to talk about the possibility of creating a new Asian football zone. The delegations were invited by the AFC president following an initiative by Iran and Afghanistan. At the extraordinary AFC congress on 9 June 2014 in Sao Paulo, the plan of the new zone was ratified by the congress.
The CAFA members include Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
