AAR Japan begins one year project on inclusive education for children with disabilities in Hisor

The Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan) begins one year project on Inclusive Education for children with disabilities in Hisor under financial support of Japan’s Government.

To commemorate this occasion, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe On July 31 hosted the signing ceremony.  Mr. Hajime Kitaoka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science, Hisor Department of Education, partner organization, and partner schools observed the ceremony.

Through the close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan, Hisor City Department of Education, AAR Japan aims at supporting the current efforts of the government of the Republic of Tajikistan for Inclusive Education, defined in the “National Conceptual Framework for the Inclusive Education of Children with Disabilities in the Republic of Tajikistan for the period from 2011 to 2015”, approved by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on April 30, 2011 (No.228).  In this project, AAR Japan will install handrails, wheelchair ramps, and renovate bathrooms in the school buildings of the School No. 3, No. 12 and No. 52 of Hisor City in order to enhance the accessibility for students with disabilities.  Besides the barrier free renovations, wheelchairs, assistive devices, and educational materials will be provided to the resource classrooms allocated by those three schools. To strengthen the capacity of the human resources for Inclusive Education and encourage the inclusion of students with disabilities at mainstream schools, seminars, training, and awareness raising activities will be conducted.

This project will be the final phase that AAR implements for Inclusive Education in Hisor City for three years. The school No. 2, No. 5, No. 15 and No. 24 of Hisor City from the previous phases will continue working with AAR Japan as leading schools of Inclusive Education in Hisor City. 

AAR Japan is a non-governmental organization and has been providing assistance to Tajikistan since 2001, aiming at improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the country.
