Tajikistan has toughened punishment for external funding of political parties. Relevant amendments were made to the country’s administrative code last week.
According to these amendments, financing of political parties by foreign legal entities, foreign or international organizations and their branches and representative offices entails a fine in the amount ranging from 50 to 100 estimate indices for functionaries. The previous fine was equal to 40-50 estimate indices.
On January 1 this year, the rate of one estimate index increased from 55.00 to 58.00 somoni.
A fine for legal entities (companies) is set in the amount ranging from 700 to 1,000 estimate indices.
Confiscation of the subject of an administrative offense is provided for in both cases.
The amount of the fine for foreign nationals and stateless persons now ranges from 100 to 200 estimate indices. The previous fine for them was equal to 10-20 estimate indices.
Persons committing such an administrative offense are expelled from the country after payment of the fine.
Tajik political parties receiving illegal donations are punished by the fine in the amount ranging from 800 to 1000 estimate indices. The previous fine for them was equal to 400-500 estimate indices.
Leaders of political parties are now punished for similar offense by the fine in the amount ranging from 100 to 200 estimate indices. The previous fine for them was equal to 40-50 estimate indices.
Seven political parties now officially functions in Tajikistan: the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan; the Communist Party of Tajikistan; the Democratic Party of Tajikistan; the Socialist Party of Tajikistan; the Social-Democratic Party of Tajikistan; the Agrarian Party of Tajikistan; and the Party of Economic Reforms.
