Sayed Majid Mirahmadi, Deputy Iranian Interior Minister for Security and Police Affairs, visited Dushanbe to attend the first meeting of the joint security task force between Iran and Tajikistan, met with Tajikistan's Interior Minister, Colonel-General Ramazon Rahimzoda, in Dushanbe on June 20, according to Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry.
IRNA says that pointing to the joint security task force that promotes the security of the two countries and neutralizes the threats posed by the foes of the two nations, Mirahmadi stressed Iran’s strong will to implement the agreements and mandates of the leaders of the two countries to strengthen relations in all fields.
According to Tasnim News Agency, the senior official at the Iranian Interior Ministry also called for plans to lift the visa requirements for Iranian and Tajik travelers.
Iran’s Nournews says Iranian deputy interior minister also pointed out that Iran considers Tajikistan's security as its own security and expressed Iran's readiness for any assistance in the security field.
He reportedly further voiced hope that the joint security task force of the two countries could provide the necessary grounds for more bilateral cooperation.
Referring to the civilizational, cultural and linguistic similarities between Iran and Tajikistan, Mirahmadi described the facilitation of travel for citizens of both countries for commercial, cultural and economic purposes as an important factor for the development of the two countries.
IRNA says Rahimzoda, for his part, stressed efforts to implement the agreements between the two countries.
Describing the joint security task force as strengthening relations and enforcing the serious willingness of the two countries' top officials on performing previously signed agreements, Tajik interior minister reportedly expressed the readiness of Tajikistan and its Ministry of Internal Affairs to expand cooperation with Iran in all areas, including the fight against terrorism, organized crime, and drug trafficking.
He further said that in the light of closer cooperation between the two countries, the regional threats and terrorism will be eliminated and called for the implementation of the agreements reached between the two presidents in their recent meetings, according to Nournews.
Recall, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major-General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri traveled to Tajikistan in May for the purpose of boosting military and defense cooperation.
A week later, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid an official visit to Iran and signed 17 cooperation agreements.
The documents entail political, economic and trade cooperation between Tehran and Dushanbe, relations in the transportation sector, joint investment, new technologies, environmental issues, the energy sector, sports interaction, judicial cooperation, research and training, as well as the tourism industry.
The Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran is in charge of performing, supervising and reporting elections, policing, and other responsibilities related to an interior ministry.
