Uzbekistan plans to increase the number of electric vehicle charging stations to 2500 by 2025.

It is reportedly mentioned in a president’s decree on measures to expand the infrastructure for the operation of electric vehicles.

UzDaily.uz says the decree notes that starting from January 1, 2024, all newly built shopping and business centers, places of entertainment and recreation, gas stations, hotels and infrastructure facilities along international and national highways must be equipped with EV charging stations.

The president instructed the Ministry of Construction to develop the necessary technical conditions for this.

The number of EV charging stations will be required to reach 2,500.  Now there are about 70 EV charging stations operating in Uzbekistan, and another 30 are planned to be introduced into operation the end of the year.

In 2023, 1,400 land plots will be auctioned for installation of EV charging stations. In addition, the JSC Regional Electrical Power Networks (a distribution service operator and electricity sales company in Uzbekistan) must install 500 EV charging stations along the highways.

The president reportedly granted entrepreneurs the right to sell electricity through their charging stations starting from 1 January 2023.  Entrepreneurs will independently set tariffs for 

The president also exempted imported charging stations, their components and technological devices for service infrastructure from customs duties.
