Tajikistan’s position towards the Taliban interim government remains unchanged, Khairiddin Usmonzoda, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan told reporters in Dushanbe on August 4.
After the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan and increasing threats from this country, Tajikistan has strengthened border control and increased the number of frontier posts along its common border with Afghanistan to 100, Usmonzoda noted.
According to him, Tajikistan authorities expressed concern about growing danger in Afghanistan’s areas bordering Tajikistan and concentration of many terrorists groups in those areas.
“Given our neighborhood with this country, we will not stop economic cooperation in order to provide support to the people of Afghanistan. Tajikistan has made all its transport corridors available to neighboring countries and international organizations providing humanitarian assistance to this country. However, as far as political relationships are concerned, Tajikistan’s position towards the Taliban remains unchanged,” Usmonzoda stated.
Tajik state-run think tank head once again underlined the necessity of establishing an inclusive government in Afghanistan that would respect the rights of women to work and study, adding that it is his is a demand of almost all countries of the world.
It is to be noted that in Central Asia, Tajikistan stands apart as the only government in direct opposition to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. Tajikistan authorities have declared that Tajikistan will refuse to acknowledge the Taliban regime so long as they do not include Tajik and minority representation in the government, and guarantee ethnic Tajiks residing in Afghanistan full political influence.
