Tajikistan’s minister of transport orders preparation of roads for winter

Date:

Tajikistan's Minister of Transport, Azim Ibrohim, has ordered an inspection of the country's roads and road services in preparation for the winter season, the ministry's press center says.

At a meeting on October 7, the minister reportedly noted that weather forecasts predict a drop in temperatures in mid-October.  He emphasized the need to check the condition of roads, bridges, as well as the readiness of special equipment and machinery.

“It is also important to prepare anti-slip materials, diesel fuel, coal, firewood, and winter clothing,” he added.

A special working group, led by the First Deputy Minister of Transport, Rahim Bobozoda, has been formed to carry out these inspections.

The group reportedly includes deputy ministers and heads of various departments.  They will also monitor road construction and repairs, as well as ensure that heavy vehicles comply with regulations.

The minister stressed that all services must be fully prepared for winter by November 1.

On September 30, at a government meeting, President Emomali Rahmon issued important directives for winter preparation.  He stressed the need to ensure adequate reserves of food and fuel for all sectors of the economy.

The president also highlighted the importance of accelerating construction projects in anticipation of the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence to create better living conditions for citizens and improve infrastructure.
