Residents of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) have received over 1,500 tons of domestically produced coal and food aid, following instructions from Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon, sys the GBAO government’s press center

It was noted that on October 6, coal was sent to various towns and districts of the region, where special points were established for its sale at affordable prices.

Local residents reportedly now can purchase high-quality coal at almost 1.5 times below the market price.  In Tajikistan, domestic coal is available for retail between 1.50 and 2.50 somonis per kilogram, depending on quality.

This is reportedly the fifth consecutive year that GBAO has received coal from the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT) and the Angishti Tojik state-run enterprise.

Before the start of the 2024-2025 autumn-winter season, 5,000 tons of high-quality coal will be delivered to other regions of the country, including Sughd and Khatlon provinces, as well as cities subordinate to the center.  This will help regulate prices and ensure that residents have access to affordable heating fuel.

The distribution of coal in GBAO will begin in the Darvoz district and will extend to the most remote settlements of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region.  Coal will also be provided free of charge to families with disabilities and those in need.

Additionally, following the president's directive, 150 tons of food, including flour, sugar, rice, oil, and pasta, were distributed to needy families in GBAO's towns and districts.
