Asia-Plus

On June 5, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan welcomed the Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to Dushanbe for a crucial meeting aimed at strengthening regional ties.

The discussions, as reported on the official Tajik presidential website, centered around enhancing cooperation within the CIS framework and outlined the key priorities of Tajikistan's current chairmanship of the organization.  Rahmon emphasized the importance of Tajikistan's role in fostering multilateral collaboration among CIS member states, stressing that the country's approach is grounded in principles of friendship, respect, and mutual trust.

“The measures we have taken are focused on expanding our cooperative relations, addressing pressing issues, and ensuring that the interests of all parties are considered,” Rahmon stated during the meeting.

The President outlined a vision for the continued development of sustainable socio-economic growth across the region, with a particular focus on enhancing stability and security within the Commonwealth. Rahmon put forward several proposals aimed at expanding cooperation in vital sectors such as economy and trade, energy, investment, innovation, and digitalization.

In addition, the conversation covered key areas such as education, healthcare, culture, and scientific collaboration.  One of the central topics was the adoption of an Action Plan for the second stage of the CIS Economic Development Strategy, which will guide economic progress up to 2030.

Environmental protection and global issue resolution were also high on the agenda, with Rahmon highlighting the importance of supporting each other’s initiatives.  The discussions also built on the momentum of the first High-Level International Conference on Glaciers' Preservation, an event led by Tajikistan to address climate change challenges in the region.

Security cooperation and the fight against modern threats were other critical issues raised during the talks, with participants agreeing on the need for stronger collective efforts in combating emerging global challenges.

Concluding the meeting, President Rahmon extended his best wishes for the success of the ongoing session of the CIS Council of Heads of Government, emphasizing the continued importance of collaboration for the benefit of all member states.
