Food security in Tajikistan has reached 85%, marking a significant achievement in ensuring the country's sustainable development. This was announced by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in his address to the parliament on December 16.

The president expressed gratitude to agricultural workers for their selfless labor and significant contributions to the development of the sector, despite the challenges posed by climate change.

Rahmon noted that, despite global climate changes, extreme heat, and dust storms, agricultural production in 2025 grew by 8.5%. "2025 was the hottest year in decades, yet agricultural producers continued to overcome challenges and achieved positive results," he emphasized.

Furthermore, the president highlighted the importance of creating strategic food reserves to ensure food security. He reiterated the need to build food reserves for two years to prepare for potential emergencies and strengthen the country’s resilience in times of crisis.

Challenges in agriculture and the need for further efforts

The president also addressed the challenges faced by agricultural producers, such as drought, poor soil quality, and water scarcity.

He mentioned that due to dry weather and unfavorable climatic conditions, "not a single hectare of land was sown in the rain-fed areas of the country," highlighting the need for further efforts to improve conditions for agriculture.
