Tajikistan plans to introduce a visa-free regime for Chinese citizens

Date:

Tajikistan is planning to introduce a visa-free regime for Chinese citizens. This was announced by Jamshed Jumakhonzoda, Chairman of the Tourism Development Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, at a news conference in Dushanbe on February 5.

He noted that the issue is currently under consideration, and "we hope it will yield positive results."

According to Jumakhonzoda, the introduction of a visa-free regime is one of the ways to attract more tourists to the country, alongside enhanced promotional and informational efforts.

"For Tajikistan, the main tourist markets are Arab countries, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Russia, China, and South Korea. Citizens of these countries show the most interest in leisure and travel," he added.

Jumakhonzoda reported that in 2025, Tajikistan welcomed 1.784 million tourists, an increase of 27.5% or 384,300 people compared to 2024.

Of the total number of tourists, 1.634 million came from the CIS countries, and the remaining 149,900 came from other countries.

The top five countries whose citizens most frequently visited Tajikistan were Uzbekistan (1.46 million), Russia (396,475), Kyrgyzstan (137,530), Kazakhstan (37,288), and China (33,178).

In 2025, Tajikistan was also included in the list of the 25 best travel destinations in the world according to the international travel publication Lonely Planet. In the "Best in Travel 2026" ranking, the country was recommended as one of the best destinations for mountain tourism.

According to the Tourism Development Committee, there are currently 191 registered tourism companies in Tajikistan. Of these, 31 companies are located in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), 93 in Dushanbe, 42 in the Sughd province, 15 in the Khatlon province, and 10 in the districts subordinate to the center.
