Gross agricultural product of Tajikistan in 2005 amounts to 2.773 billion Somonis

DUSHANBE, January 20, Asia-Plus — Last year’s gross agricultural product from all categories was 2.773 billion Somonis and increased by 3.1 percent compared to 2004, an official with the Ministry of Agriculture told journalists on January 18.  

            According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, during 2005 all categories of farms produced 554,900 tons potatoes or 5.3 percent more than in 2004, 170,000 tons of vegetables and melon crops, 148,000 tons of fruits and 90 tons of grapes. 

 As of January 2006 there were 1,375,000 head of cows, more than 3,000,000 head of sheep and goats and 2,400,000 head of poultry on all categories of farms.

Tajik authorities put ban on selling poultry products in shops

.  “It could be one of measures to prevent spread of H5N1 virus to

,” said Amirbekov, “I would recommend the government to ban imports of chickens and birds and poultry products at all.”    

Despite the fact that no cases of bird flu have so far been registered in the republic, medical workers continue keeping up with the situation and all veterinary and sanitary-epidemiological services have been put on alert, Mullojon Amirbekov stressed.

, Ziyovuddin Afghonov, has advised once again Tajik citizens not to travel unnecessarily to the countries, where an outbreak of bird flu was registered.     

“We realize that preventive measures taken by us such as quarantine at all poultry farms across the republic and ban on imports of chickens and poultry products may negatively impact the economic situation in the republic but if do not do this now, we will have to pay higher price,” Ziyovuddin Afghonov stressed.

Dushanbe mayor’s office announces competition for constructing of two multi-storey residential buildings

DUSHANBE, January 20, Asia-Plus — The Dushanbe mayor’s office has announced an open competition for the construction of two nine-storey residential buildings at the Nemat Qaraboyev Street in Dushanbe.

According to information from the construction department within the Dushanbe mayor’s office, both Tajik and foreign citizens, as well as local and foreign legal entities irrespective of forms of property may participate in the competition.   

            Investor winning the competition and constructing the buildings will be considered proprietor of them.  “10 percent of apartments will be transferred to jurisdiction of the Dushanbe mayor’s office,” the Asia-Plus interlocutor noted, adding that the competition’s results will be summed up by January 31, 2006.   

Qurbonali Islomov, deputy head of the construction department within the Dushanbe mayor’s office, has told Asia-Plus that it is planned to construct three such residential buildings at the Nemat Qaraboyev Street.

50 Tajik criminals detained in Russia last year extradited to Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, January 20, Asia-Plus — 50 criminal wanted by Tajik police for various crimes committed in Tajikistan were detained in the Russian Federation last year and handed over to the Tajik law enforcement agencies, Tajik Interior Minister, Khumdin Sharipov, told journalists on January 20.   

According to him, these persons were members of various criminal rings.  

Khumdin Sharipov also told journalists that 76 cases of recruiting people for exploitation were reported in the republic last year.

DUSHANBE, January 20, Asia-Plus — On Wednesday January 18, officers of the Dushanbe police directorate’s squad for combating drug trafficking (drug police) detained Hamza Huseinov, resident of Kulob, who has been suspected of being involved in drug trafficking. 

Jaloliddin Sadriddinov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe police directorate, has told Asia-Plus that almost ten kilograms of heroin were confiscated from him.  Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Hamza Huseinov.

‘Our relationships with Iran not aimed against other states,’ says deputy Tajik foreign minister

DUSHANBE, January 19, Asia-Plus — “Our economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran have expanded over the last several years,” Deputy Foreign Minister, Abdunabi Sattorov, told journalists on January 19.

He reminded  that Tajik President Rahmonov’s visit to Iran had resulted in signing of eight memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering various topics such as an amendment to the banking loans, upgrading the standards of goods and products, transportation, construction of dams and power plant, additional protocol for construction of Sangtuda-2 power plant, cooperation on energy and cooperation between the two sides.  Besides, Tajikistan and Iran also discussed the construction of the Shahriston tunnel in Tajikistan, according to him.  

The deputy Tajik foreign minister also noted that the president of the country had declared a policy of open doors and Tajikistan was ready for establishment of closed relationships with all countries throughout the world.  

“Expansion of our cooperation with Iran is not aimed against other states. Developing its relationships with other countries Tajikistan proceeds from its national interests.  As far as the nuclear problem is concerned, we come out for solving this issue through diplomatic ways, in interests of all interested states,” Sattorov concluded.

last year, Tajik interior minister told journalists on January 19. 

A large number of subversive literature, including various books, leaflets, and brochures, and computers were confiscated from them, according to him.

In 2004, Tajik police revealed and detained persons involved in commitment of “crimes of terrorist nature” as well as 38 members of illegal armed groupings, the minister said.  According to him, thee were several cases when members of

Investigations into January 31 and June 13 blasts in Tajik capital completed

, January 19, Asia-Plus — Investigations into the January 31 and June 13 blasts outside the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) in


Dushanbe


have been completed and two persons involved in these crimes have been detained, Tajik Minister of Interior told journalists.

            According to him, the cases have already moved to the Supreme Court that is currently considering criminal proceedings instituted against one of them.  The minister refrained from giving further details and refused to disclose their names.  He justified this by saying that not all persons involved in those crimes have been so far detained. 

He noted that when the police were detaining those two criminals in the house where they were, “another one person who was with them blew up himself.”
