Russian Prime Minister discusses nuclear power investment in Uzbekistan

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that during his visit to Tashkent, he discussed attracting Russian investments to Uzbekistan, particularly to the nuclear power industry.

“Uzbekistan”s part in the nuclear power industry of the Soviet Union was remarkable. We will try to restore former ties,” Vladimir Putin said in a conversation with Russian journalists in Tashkent.

He also noted that Uzbekistan was interested in attracting Russian investors to the power industry and that there were also opportunities for selling Russian electricity to this country.

Vladimir Putin said that the Uzbek side also expressed interest in attracting Russian investments to modernizing the processing industry.

Vladimir Putin said transport tariffs, primarily railway tariffs, were also discussed during the talks. “We ourselves are interested in reducing them, in particular during the period when fruits and vegetables, supplied to the Russian market, ripen,” the Russian prime minister said.

According to him, discussions on the integration of the Tashkent Aviation Construction Production Association named after Chkalov into the [Russian] United Aircraft Corporation were continued during the talks with the Uzbek partners.
