Prices to hike up in Kyrgyzstan in 2009

Kyrgyzstan is likely to experience a rise in prices for bread and flour products, housing tariffs and electricity in 2009, Abdybaly tegin Suerkul, deputy chairman of the Kyrgyz National Bank said during the session of parliament committee on energy, budget and finance on Tuesday, October 28, 2008.

National Bank’s outlook for 2009 says that the bread and flour products will rise in price for 15-20 percent, while electricity grows by 20 percent. “The housing tariffs will grow consequently by 20-45 percent,” the lawmaker said.

The gas price remains one of the few still unassigned issues, as Uzbekistan has not informed Kyrgyz government about the price yet. “But we assume a 30-40 percent difference, just as we did in 2007 while composing an outlook for 2008,” the deputy chairman stressed.
