Bishkek to face nightly blackouts

Kyrgyz authorities will introduce nightly power blackouts in Bishkek due to inobservance of energy consumption limits, Talant Raimjanov the Director General of the Severelecro Company told the news agency “24.kg” Monday.

“Despite strict warnings about limitation of power consumption, Bishkek residents overrun the limits. Governors of the all four Bishkek districts were responsible for notification of residents about new regulations. However, it is almost the whole city that does not comply with the limits,” Raimjanov said.

The October district and newly built blocks are unconditional leaders of the highest electricity consumption rates. The Lenin district is the one with relatively acceptable consumption. Taking the current situation into account, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy Resources issues a regulation according to which Bishkek will experience nightly blackouts starting from November 15, 2008.

“The blackouts will not last longer than 6 hours and will take place only at nights. Hospitals, maternity houses and strategic objects are not to be cut off from the electricity,” Raimjanov noted.
